CONNECTIVITY

LINUX:

Connecting to the department users MUST use an SSH client to

connect to the remote access cluster named:

pyrite.cs.iastate.edu

An SSH client can be obtained from a number of sources, one may use the ISU recommended client that can be obtained at:

http://ftp.sitelicensed.iastate.edu

As well as a number of ISU-licensed software packages.

TESTING YOUR CODE:

Once connected to the pyrite cluster users may test their code on a number of machines

Named: {lin141c, lin141f, lin141i, lin141m, lin141o}.lab.cs.iastate.edu

DO NOT TEST CODE on the pyrite cluster.

WINXP:

Point terminal server clients (tsclient or rdesktop) at the cluster:

cstc.cs.iastate.edu and login with their CS Username/Password under the COMS domain

Please DO NOT USE csts.cs.iastate.edu as it is exclusively for COMS 103.

FTP access:

All users should point their ftp client to

ftp.cs.iastate.edu and login with their CS Username and Password

This is the ONLY machine accepting FTP connections.

----

The ISU-CS system has absolutely nothing to do with the

Campus-wide Net-ID system.

We do not share user databases with them or file systems.

Please instruct your students that

(Net-ID/AIT/Durham/Project Vincent/ASW) != Computer Science.

When A User CHANGES MAJORS FROM COMPUTER SCIENCE:

Loses their CS Account (unless they are currently taking a CS Class)

then it expires at the end of the semester.

Must re-apply subsequent semesters even if they had an account previously

(usually this is done automatically)

Disk quota:                                          *** Yet to be Determined ***

CS Graduate students receive

Additional space must be requested via faculty

CS Undergraduate students receive:
