Problems connecting to popeye, pyrite, ren, cstc, etc?

As of July 6, 2014, we have restricted these machines to campus-only and VPN access.

All ISU students, faculty & staff have access to the VPN (click here for details).

Department News

  • Late October 2014: Computer Science's email service ( is being migrated to ISU's central IT servers. No downtime is expected.
  • October 15, 2014: Computer Science's DNS servers were replaced between 5 and 7 am.
  • August 10, 2014: Most Computer Science servers–including pyrite, popeye, ren, and cstc–have switched to Iowa State authentication. The same username that accesses CyMail and ASW now works for CS servers!
  • July 6, 2014: Several Computer Science servers–including pyrite, popeye, ren, and cstc–have been moved to private IPs. The ISU VPN ( must now be used to connect from off-campus.
  • June 27, 2014: Pearson & Atanasoff were affected by a campus network outage. Remote access servers were offline during the outage.

  • Administrative Services Building Electrical Work (2015/09/09 08:00)
    Starting at 8:00 am on Wednesday September 9th a Contractor will be in the Administrative Services Building doing Electrical work. No down time is planned, no users or staff should be affected. Work should conclude by 5:00 pm.
