Problems connecting to popeye, pyrite, ren, cstc, etc?

As of July 6, 2014, we have restricted these machines to campus-only and VPN access.

All ISU students, faculty & staff have access to the VPN (click here for details).

Department News

  • Late October 2014: Computer Science's email service ( is being migrated to ISU's central IT servers. No downtime is expected.
  • October 15, 2014: Computer Science's DNS servers were replaced between 5 and 7 am.
  • August 10, 2014: Most Computer Science servers–including pyrite, popeye, ren, and cstc–have switched to Iowa State authentication. The same username that accesses CyMail and ASW now works for CS servers!
  • July 6, 2014: Several Computer Science servers–including pyrite, popeye, ren, and cstc–have been moved to private IPs. The ISU VPN ( must now be used to connect from off-campus.
  • June 27, 2014: Pearson & Atanasoff were affected by a campus network outage. Remote access servers were offline during the outage.

  • Class Climate upgrade planned for June 3 10am-Noon (2015/06/03 10:00)
    The Class Climate on-line course evaluation survey system will be down for a software upgrade on Wednesday, June 3, from 10am to Noon. CDT.
  • WSUS server upgrade - rescheduled (2015/06/02 09:00)
    Starting at 9am on Tuesday, June 2, WSUS server ( will be upgraded to a newer version. During this time the software update services provided by will not be available.
  • ADIN and A+ operating system upgrades planned (2015/05/31 07:00)
    The operating system of the server that support ADIN, AccessPlus is going to be upgraded Sunday May 31st from 7:00 am to noon. During this time all applications running on the server will be unavailable, which include ADIN, A+, SYSD, PROD-C, etc
  • Aastra voice system maintenance (2015/05/29 05:00)
    Certain components of the AASTRA voice system will be restarted for maintenance 5:00am - 6:00am Friday, May 29th.
